St Chad Parish August Away Giving Coffee morning (in support of Action Duchene) – Saturday the 4th August 10am – 11.30am

At St Chad’s Parish Centre, Uppermill. £1 entry includes cake and tea/coffee. A raffle also takes place and gifts/cards are on sale plus free gifts. Please go and support this charity, as many of you know Diggle parishoners Sue and Tony Ackroyd and their family have worked so hard to raise awareness of Duchene Muscular Dystrophy.


Hiroshima Day – Sunday 5th August – Saddleworth Peace Group

Saddleworth Peace group have issued an open invitation to everyone in the Saddleworth community to attend and be part of the commemoration which they have marked for many years. The afternoon promises to be a thought-provoking and sensitive afternoon. The Rt Revd Dr Rupert Hoare will make an address and Debbie Abrahams MP has agreed to attend.

Meeting at The Swan in Delph at 2pm, the group will walk from Delph up to Heights Church. Once at Heights Church (3pm) the afternoon will continue with music, readings and poetry remembering the dropping of the atomic bomb on the Japanese city in August 1945. It caused the deaths of an estimated 150,000 people.

Refreshments will be available at The Royal Oak at Heights and there is access for vehicles up to the Heights for those with restricted mobility.

YANKS NAAFI CAFE!! – Step back in time. Saturday 11th August and Sunday 12th August 10am ‘til 4pm each day. Location: Sacred Heart and St William RC Church, High Street, Uppermill, Oldham OL3 6HS

In support of: The Sacred Heart RC Church and St Chad, Saddleworth Whit Friday Fund.

Following the success of previous years the cafe, organised by members of 2 churches in Saddleworth (Sacred Heart RC, Uppermill and St Chad CE Church, Uppermill), will once again step back in time and ask you to join them at their NAAFI style cafe open both days over the weekend. To the sound of ’40s music, sandwiches, jacket potatoes, cakes, tea and coffee will be served by our ‘staff’ in 40s style dress.

Event: Music Concert – Divertenti Quartet – Saturday 8th September 7.30pm – 9pm. Location: St Chad’s Church, Church Road, Uppermill, Oldham. Entry fee: Tickets: Adults: £6 Concessions: £4

Hosted by St Chad’ Church this concert will be performed by a quartet of young ‘A’ students planning a career in music. The students are hoping to raise funds to be part of a college led ‘Challenge Expedition’ to Namibia in 2013 and as part of their own personal growth have to raise £3,300 each to fund the trip!

During the event they will perform the Brahms String Quartet in C Minor followed by Dvorak ‘American’ Quartet.
