india__stuart_coleman-2Greater Manchester Police have this morning conducted a search at an address in the Oldham area as part of a crackdown on organised criminal networks.

Last night, Friday 3 May 2013, police raided six properties in Oldham as part of a multi-agency operation.

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and remain in police custody for questioning. A large amount of cash and some ammunition was also seized.

Residents in the surrounding houses and streets were spoken to by local officers and partner agencies were informed.
Assistant Chief Constable Steve Heywood said, “People living in the surrounding areas in Oldham will no doubt have seen this police activity last night, as there was quite a visible police presence. I can update this morning that three men remain in custody for questioning following these searches.

“There continues to be further activity today at one address in the Oldham central area, which is likely to take us some time to complete. I would like to thank the public for their patience as we continue with our enquiries.

If people in the local area have any information about those they believe may be involved in criminal gangs or related activity, then please come forward and speak to the police or pass details on to us anonymously through Crimestoppers.

“This operation is part of ongoing work to tackle organised criminality across Greater Manchester and we know that the answers to tackling organised crime lie in the communities where these people operate. Every piece of information we receive is assessed and acted upon accordingly, so please get in touch to tell us what further action we can take.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
