UntitledOldham Council is seeking bids from parties interested in operating the Bishop Park pitch and putt site at Grains Bar.

Rental bids are now being sought for a 25-year lease of the course for its continued use as a pitch and putt facility. The venue is located close to the junction of the A672 Ripponden Road and the B1697 Grains Road, about four miles to the north east of Oldham town centre. The nine-hole pitch pitch and putt course, with access via a track and car park, plus a stone-built booking office building, are all included in the lease offer.

The pitch and putt is a par three course with holes ranging from 89 to 119 yards. In recent years it has operated seasonally from April to October. The site is tended with moorland grass fairways and small greens, landscaped with trees and shrubs and is situated in an elevated Green Belt location in the Pennine hills. In addition to the land to be leased, across the track from the booking office, there is also an 18-hole putting green. The site measures 9.03 acres in total and additional adjoining land could be made available if any interested party had a need and suitable use.

Councillor Dave Hibbert, Cabinet Member for Housing, Transport and Planning, said, “This facility sits in an absolutely stunning Green Belt location and is a unique opportunity for the right person. As well as the pitch and putt course itself there is also potential in the accommodation at the site, the booking office and former changing rooms, which have been underused in recent years. Our informal planning advice suggests that, in principle, this could be used as a café, for example, which would be a further draw to the public in this setting. We’re looking forward to seeing what interest is out there now to maximise this site’s potential, and its future use and enjoyment by the public.”
