Diggle celebrates its heroes at Diggle Band’s annual Christmas Concert.

On Tuesday 20th December the Diggle Heroes nominees were invited to a special award ceremony at Diggle band Club. The nominees were chosen by local residents for either making a significant contribution to the Diggle Community or for accomplishing something exceptional during 2011.

This year saw seven nominees short-listed for two awards, junior and senior Diggle Heroes 2011.

Jessica Lloyd (Junior Category Winner): Nominated for her major achievements in swimming. She has won gold, silver and bronze medals whilst representing Great Britain in international swimming events and she is at present training with the Olympic Swimming Squad trying for a place at the 2012 Olympic Games.

Peter Ashworth: Nominated for his hard work and involvement in the Diggle Whit Friday Band Night committee and his support contribution to the Diggle Community.

Paul and Janet: Nominated for their achievements at Diggle Post Office and their contribution to the Diggle community.

Wendy Bradbury (Senior Category Winner): Nominated for her dedicated commitment to the Kiln Green Youth Club and the children of Diggle. She has run the Youth Club every week, during school term time, for the past eighteen years.

Maurice Brayford: Nominated for the third year running for his work in keeping the Shaws Clock ticking and in working order.

Kathleen Lambert: Nominated for supporting many village events, fetes and coffee mornings with her wonderful baking.

Tom Robinson: Nominated for his achievements in raising funds for Childhood Diabetes. He ran a distance of 10k for 99 days consecutively and then on the hundredth day ran the Great North Run.

Stuart Coleman, chairman of the Diggle Community Association, said, “The commitment and achievement of this year’s nominees is exemplary and it is very fitting that they should be publicly recognised and rewarded for their efforts. They reflect the truly remarkable people we have living in Diggle”
