Transport for The Ashes and Sky Ride Manchester
Two major sporting events are expected to affect transport services and roads in and around Manchester this week.
Emirates Old Trafford (Lancashire County Cricket Club) plays host to The Ashes from Thursday 1 August to Monday 5 August, while around 15,000 cyclists are expected to take to the streets for Sunday’s Sky Ride Manchester (4 August).
Metrolink will be running extra double trams around the expected start and finish times (11am and 6.30pm) to ensure customers can get to and from the Old Trafford Metrolink stop swiftly and safely.
The Trafford Bar and Firswood trams stops are also just a short walk from the Emirates Stadium.
Around 25,000 people are expected to attend The Ashes each day, and services are expected to be busy. Passengers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journey. Check www.metrolink.co.uk or ring 0161 205 2000 for further information before travelling.
Roads will be closed in and around Manchester city centre on Sunday for Sky Ride Manchester, which takes place between 10am and 4pm on a traffic free route between Sackville Park and the National Cycling Centre. Click here to see a map of the route.
A list of the road closures can be found on the Manchester City Council website, by clicking here or by calling 0161 234 5200.
