Saddleworth teenager Libby Bennet was one of the stars of the Chanel Metiers d’Art fashion show in Manchester’s Northern Quarter last night.
The 18-year-old from Grasscroft took to the specially built covered catwalk in Thomas Street in front of 600 guests, including A-list celebrities Kristen Stewart, Hugh Grant, Alexa Chung and Tilda Swinton. Doctor Who actress Jenna Coleman, and Salford poet John Cooper Clarke.
The Métiers d’Art show: French for “Master of arts” visits a different city every year. It is distinct from the regular fashion weeks, such as Paris Fashion Week or Milan Fashion Week, and it holds a special place in Chanel’s calendar. According to Chanel, Manchester was chosen because of its textile heritage and vibrant music and arts scene.
Following the show, Libby joined the stars at an after party held at Victoria Baths in Chorlton-on-Medlock, which featured Scottish rock band Primal Scream.
Libby, who earlier this year featured in Louis Vuitton’s Paris fashion week show said: “It was fantastic to take part in such a high-profile fashion event on my doorstep. The Chanel show has helped reinforce Manchester’s position in the fashion industry.”
From 4pm today (Friday 8.12.23) the baths will open to the public for a retrospective exhibition, supported by Chanel. Called “Manchestermodern: past present future” it has been produced by Manchester’s arts organisation Factory International and CHAOS SixtyNine.
