Oldham is to host its first-ever Digital Festival to improve resident’s digital skills with hands-on advice, workshops and tips to help you get on in work and life.

Oldham Library is the place to be on Saturday, March 25 from 10am to 8pm, for this free event and the chance to learn everything you need to know about new technology.

The festival is a joint venture between Oldham Council and Peshkar Productions, an intercultural theatre and multimedia art company.

The line-up will include digital explorations and experiments with some of the best professional digital artists around.

You can start your micro:bit adventure with BBC Make it digital, draw in virtual reality with Google Tilt Brush, have a go at making your own video game character, or learn how to repair digital equipment.

You can also join us for some retro games or just find out more about online banking and Smartphone applications first-hand from the experts.

Hack Oldham – who are set to move into Oldham’s new Digital Enterprise Hub on Yorkshire Street this summer – are also taking over the library on the day and offering advice on coding, making, tech and gaming, and devices.

There’s even a workshop showing writers how to showcase their creative efforts online to a wider audience, plus a stall from University Campus Oldham about digital careers, and a demonstration of free and interactive business resources.

Councillor Barbara Brownridge, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood and Co-operative said: “The Digital Festival is a brilliant example of how Oldham is working in partnership with some of the best and brightest talent around to help give our residents access to new information, knowledge and equipment.”

“We are always looking at opportunities to help residents discover new skills and this event is aimed at people of all age groups and abilities.

“You don’t have to be an expert and everyone can have great fun whilst learning.

“This Digital Festival is just one of many opportunities that the library offers to do this and I hope people will come out and take advantage of this excellent opportunity.”

The Digital Festival is presented in partnership with Oldham libraries and Peshkar productions and incorporates the Young Digitals Festival 2017, Hack Oldham, Flashback Games, Allied, Barclays, Oldham Credit Union and BBC Micro:bit.
