Ken and Anne Wright from Dobcross were recently each awarded an MBE in recognition of their long service to charity and the local community.

Over the past 40 years they have supported a wide range of groups and organisations. These  include; meals on wheels, Saddleworth Cancer research, the Huddersfield Canal Society, the Oldham Colliseum and the talking newspaper for the blind.

Currently Ken and Anne are working with the Saddleworth Players at the Millgate Arts Centre where they are both actively involved in the management and organisation of the centre and its productions.

On Friday 18th November 2011 Mr. and Mrs. Wright attended Buckingham Palace where Prince Charles awarded them with their medals. They were accompanied by members of their family. Prince Charles commented on their work saying to Anne, “Thank goodness for people like you.” Anne replied, “There are many of us who do this kind of work and I am pleased to receive this award on their behalf .”

Anne and Ken said that it was a fabulous experience and receiving this award is a great honour.
