Public transport users are being reminded to check their services before travelling over the festive period.
A ‘Christmas services’ page is now online at the Transport for Greater Manchester website, www.tfgm.com/christmas, outlining the level of service people can expect between 24 December and 2 January.
No bus, train or tram services will run on Christmas Day except Stagecoach bus 43 running between Manchester city centre and Manchester Airport.
On Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, several bus operators are running services, and Manchester City Centre’s Metroshuttle will run on routes 1 and 2. Metrolink will run a Sunday service frequency from 9am to 9pm with double trams for the football match at Old Trafford on Boxing Day. For more detailed information on individual services, call Traveline on 0871 200 22 33.
Susan Wildman, TfGM Communications and Customer Services Director, said, “While there are always fewer public transport services running over the festive period, there are more than you might think, particularly on Boxing Day. It’s worth taking a look at what’s on offer, and the at-a-glance guide on our website is great for quick reference. For more detailed information, I’d encourage people to check with their operator or call us at Traveline.
“As always at this time of year, make sure you plan ahead, consider your options and check your service operator’s website or our Twitter feed before setting out for a journey, as wintry weather can affect some services.”
Traveline – 0871 200 22 33 – will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Opening hours can be found in the Christmas services leaflet at www.tfgm.com/christmas. Calls cost 10p per minute plus any charges your network provider makes.
