Important warning from Oldham Council – don’t be caught out by Council Tax scams

Oldham Council has received a number of worrying reports about a series of Council Tax scams.

Residents have received convincing-looking and sounding emails and telephone calls claiming to be offering a Council Tax refund

The companies are asking people to provide their bank details so they can pursue a refund on your behalf. This is a scam.

Oldham Council and Unity Partnership (Oldham Council’s service delivery partner) would never call or email residents to offer a refund and ask for bank details.

Don’t get caught out!

If you receive an email offering a Council Tax refund and asking you to provide you bank account details by clicking on a link, ignore it and delete the email.

If you are cold called and asked to provide your bank details to receive a Council Tax refund hang up and ignore the request.

To help stay safe why not sign up for our safe and secure My Account via the Oldham Council website which allows you to pay safely online.
