The festive season in Diggle has now officially begun with the Kiln Green annual Christmas fair. The fair was opened by 93 year old Una Hanalon who attended Kilngreen Church when it was a school.
As in previous years, the event was well organised and supported by church members, local groups, parents and local residents.
An army of volunteers commandeered the church hall and transformed it into a vibrant Christmas market place. There was a wide variety of stalls including photographs and cards, books, Christmas gifts, cakes, a raffle, tombola and lucky dip.
As one might expect from a local village church hall, the cakes were delicious and at 70 pence to £1.00 each probably represented one of the best bargains to be found in Saddleworth.
Father Christmas put in an early appearance in his Grotto. Local children had an opportunity to meet him and his helpers and all received presents.
This was a great event made possible by the hard work and commitment of those involved.
