Fridays’s unprecedented rainfall caused flooding on lower lying areas in Diggle and Saddleworth.

On Huddersfield Road above Diggle the constant flow of cascading water overwhelmed street drains causing huge plumes of water, under pressure, to rise up to five feet above the ground.

Many lanes off the A62 became water courses taking water down into Diggle. Diggle Brook was extremely swollen, bursting its banks in low lying areas.

The heavy rain caused the water table to rise and there are reports of cellars in Diggle being flooded.

The Met office reported that a month’s rain fell in 24 hours in the Pennines but the weather is set to improve over the next few days.
