A Flood Alert has been issued by the Environment Agency.

Flood Alert in force: River Mersey Uplands catchment including Hyde, Ashton-under-Lyne, Denton, Stalybridge and Glossop.

Flooding is possible for: The Mersey Uplands catchment includes Rivers Goyt, Tame, Sett and Etherow and their tributaries. Other locations which may be affected are around Mossley, New Mills, Hazel Grove, Marple, Romiley and Hyde..

Be prepared.

Heavy rainfall is forecast in the Mersey Uplands area from late afternoon today (Wednesday 4th October) until tomorrow morning (Thursday the 5th October). Current forecasts suggest that there will be flooding to low lying land and roads close to the river from the early hours on the 5th October.
We expect the river to remain high throughout the evening through to tomorrow morning though no flooding to properties is forecast and warnings are not expected to be issued.
Take care near the areas of concern and monitor your local weather conditions.
We are constantly monitoring river levels and have staff in the area checking for, and clearing, blockages in this location.
